El historiador
Rodolfo "Rudy" Acuña, de 93 años, falleció hoy en paz con familiares
a su lado. Los arreglos funerarios están pendientes.
Académico
prolífico, activista reconocido, profesor y profesor universitario, Acuña
enseñó a lo largo de su vida y escribió numerosos libros, pero es más conocido
por el aclamado libro y las ediciones posteriores de "América ocupada, la
lucha chicano hacia la liberación", que es una de las obras fundamentales
del "movimiento", considerada una obra inspiradora y pionera de la
historia mexicoamericana.
Acuña también fue
llamado el "Abuelo de los Estudios Chicanos" ya que fue el fundador e
instrumental en la creación del mayor departamento de Estudios Chicanos del
país, CSUN, que fomentó la graduación de miles de estudiantes que lograron
acceder a profesiones en todos los campos. Enseñó en la universidad durante 60
años.
Durante los
últimos seis años, vivió valientemente con la enfermedad de Parkinson con el
apoyo de su esposa Lupe y su hija Angela. Ahora mismo piden privacidad.
Historian Rodolfo "Rudy" Acuña, 93, passed
away peacefully today with family members at his side. Funeral arrangements are
pending.
A prolific scholar, renowned activist, teacher and
university professor, Acuña taught throughout his lifetime and wrote numerous
books, but he is best known for the much acclaimed book and subsequent editions
of "Occupied America, The Chicano Struggle Toward Liberation" is one
of the seminal works for the "movement", considered an inspirational
and groundbreaking work of Mexican American history.
Acuña was also called the "Grandfather of Chicano
Studies" as he was the founder and instrumental in building the largest
Chicano Studies department in the country at CSUN that encouraged the
graduation of thousands of students who successfully entered professions in
every field. He taught at university for 60 years.
Over the last six years, he valiantly lived with Parkinson's
disease with the support of his wife Lupe and daughter Angela. They are asking
for privacy at this time.
